Another great space that I walked into last Saturday. The name of this lovely boutique is called: by hoocho. “Hoocho” means pepper, I learned from the shopkeeper. She was so pleasant in letting me browse around freely (foreign readers who live in Seoul, know what I am referencing here) trying on everything that caught my eye and there were many things, folks! I usually don’t try on clothes when I shop but this shop had such an interesting collection of coats, accessories, etc. that I couldn’t resist. I contemplated buying most of what I tried on and that’s a rare occurrence. I must say that it was the light of this space that made me stay longer. I mean, when I start contemplating living in a shop due to the natural light allowed to flow in, well, that means something. Definitely worth a visit anytime you’re in Shinsa-dong.
Open hours: 11:30-20:30

If you look at the post that I wrote called “A trusting people” you can see this store from the outside. Ground to ceiling glass let’s in all the light without being overwhelming. Lovely.

I know what you’re talking about. I don’t care. There are people who are open to browsing. Those who aren’t don’t need my business. After all, how can you tell if a product is not good if you can’t examine it?

It seems you spend a lot of time in Apgu and other areas of Kangnam. Is that where all your photos are from?

How do you find these places? It seems like you find the most interesting and beautiful places and people in Seoul.

I prefer browsing and shopping in boutiques instead of major department stores. I feel more comfortable in these places. I’ve been spending a lot of time in Shinsa-dong as well. I’m working on some personal projects and need something from these areas.
I photograph everywhere in Seoul, not just in Apgu and its surrounding areas. I love to walk everywhere so many neighborhoods are represented on my blog.
All my life I’ve met or come across great people and places. I think it’s because I’m very open to everyone and I will walk up to anyone and say hello. Everything starts with “Hello”. Thank you for commenting!

You attract them with your positive energy. I know that someone could go in the same places as you, but not necessarily get the same response. There were times when I would get offers of help, etc. It’s all about energy. You send out positive energy and you get it back.

I like your blog. It projects love and positivity, which I cannot say for some other blogs on Korea. You have an open mind and seek beauty in all around you, so that is what you pick up on. That’s why you attract beauty, too.

You just came to Korea a few months ago? So I’m guessing that you are not fluent?

I’m surprised that every shop you enter, you are able to converse with the owners. I did not think that English speaking would be so prevalent in those shops. You go to a lot of small shops, not luxury shops where I would expect English speakers. I’m also surprised by how open they are to you as a foreigner. (A lot of Koreans are shy or uncomfortable around foreigners.) They are quite cosmopolitan. Perhaps you are in areas frequented by foreigners.

    Jstele,
You are so kind and generous with your comments. Thank you, your words really move me.
I am not fluent at all, I barely know five words of Korean and I’m embarrassed that I don’t know more. I need to get a private Korean teacher and soon. I am quite surprised that most of the people I meet speak English very well and even if they don’t I speak slowly, respectfully and I try to find ways to communicate. We both laugh at my inadequacies and I think that that is appreciated on both sides.
Where do you live? I’m in Shinchon, but I don’t hang around a lot of other foreigners. Nothing against my fellow compatriots we just have different interests.

You can email me and I’ll tell you a bit more about myself.

You should do a language exchange. It’s free. Anyways, you could ask around and see if anyone knows someone, preferably college-educated, good communications skills, etc. Find someone who speaks like an eloquent actor. Someone who speaks naturally. Do not ever imitate newsreaders because they speak like robots. They’re trained to :)

    Hey there,

the photos you’ve posted look really gorgeous. It almost dosen’t look like what you usually find in an Asian city. The places you’ve introduced do look pretty chic, I need to take down the various areas cos the names are all quite similar.

    Looking forward to more…
