Three really is the magic number
The number three and all multiples of three really excite me for some reason.Yesterday was exceptionally fortuitous as I met someone in Bukchon and was given an informative tour of the area. He gave me a lot of historical information about some things, buildings, that I had not noticed before in Bukchon and also inspired me to know get closer to the people that I encounter there. It was pointed out to me that most homes in Bukchon, traditional homes called hanok, are constructed with three layers of wall. The first part is made out of clay and the other part two layers consist of a stone of some sort. I have walked past these walls countless times but never took the time to really look deeply at a wall. So simple and fascinating.

I’m a total fan of your blog, btw. I am hopefully going to Korea for the first time in 20 years this year, barring job changes and wot not. (I was there in ‘88, but I was so young and Seoul, and the rest of Korea for that matter, were so v. different back then.) But, Seoul looks so lovely and fun in your pics, I think I would love it. And my friend agrees with your obsession with Samcheong-dong. Keep shooting and maybe when I come, I can visit your business~

Wow. Three layered walls? Must be pretty easy to keep warm in winter. That’s cool.

BTW, i just looked at my house the other day and saw that it had 3 layers, like you said. Funny, I never noticed it. And I LIVE in a hanok.
