Happy New Year from Paris!
Yes, darlings!
I’m going to Paris tomorrow to celebrate love and life!
I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year and may it bring you great health, happiness and prosperity! Thank you for making this a great year for me!
Bisous! Bisous!
If you haven’t seen 2 days in Paris, please do. It’s hilarious and shows a grittier but no less wonderful side of Paris. Here’s a one of my favorite scenes of this movie. Enjoy!
Metro Lines

As you may or may not know, I ‘m in Virginia visiting family and friends. I’ve been loving walking and living in one of my favorite neighborhoods, walking down wide tree-lined streets, passing neighbors and strangers wishing them a beautiful day or just saying hello. As I walk down the street I am so grateful to have the ability to walk and on top of that in gorgeous Virginia!
I always share the beauty of my native Virginia with anyone who wants to hear, but there’s one thing that we don’t have here in Richmond…a metro, a subway system!
How cool would it be if we had as many lines as the Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation? Uh, pretty cool! I could cross the James River (in Seoul it’s the Han River) with ease, in no time flat, I could have dinner with my suburban friends without the hassle of driving down 95. I’ll be back on the metro in a month or two, remembering this post as some pushy older lady steals my seat. I’ll take a deep breath, show her my Southern manners and graciously stand and smile. I’ll be old one day too.
Respect your elders.
Korean shoe game

Shoes by Choi Jung In

Shoes from Papergarden, designer unknown
Koreans have a mean shoe game.
I have never in my life seen so many women, no matter the age, weight, socio-economic situation where so many different and high-as-the-sky heels before in my life. Along with the normal sounds of any metropolitan city on earth you will hear the distinctive clacking of heels from all directions, anytime of the day or night. It’s a reassuring sound in my mind now. Any woman will tell you that as you’re walking home from work or some chic lounge bar, the sound of click-clacking heels is more comforting than the voices of cat-calling drunk men.
Korean men are just as serious about their attire as the women. Especially young, hip Koreans. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that they confer before hitting the latest cafes, bars, etc. The best of them look like they’re ready for a close up for Korean Vogue and the worst of them need to consult Vogue magazine. That said, to each his own. Rock your shoe game anyway you like!
Here, in Seoul or perhaps in most Asian countries appearance is extremely important. Not to say that it isn’t in the western world but
Ether Cafe
While no space can top my favorite cafe in Hongdae, it’s this one that I’m beginning to love more and more. This cafe I’ve never heard horrible music in, this cafe’s hostess has the mostess’ and this cafe has good bones.
Where: in Hongdae, but of course
When: The earlier the better, that way you can relax and study the art all around you.
