Hello everyone!

Yes, it’s time to get away and I going to spend 16 lovely days and night in the Land of Smiles! That’s right, Thailand! I’m so excited. I know that I will meet warm, creative, hospitable people everywhere that I go and I hope that I am as wonderful to them as they will be to me.
I can hardly wait to float in blue/green water, watch children frolicking on the beach and of course, EAT WELL!

I leave you this amulet taken from Gahoe Musuem in Bukchon.
Have a great day and I’ll write again when I get back to Seoul. Ciao!

This is an artspace, cafe, gallery, etc.  Whatever else it is, it certainly isn’t boring.

They too need a home

Home. A word that continues to confuse, elate and haunt me.

“Home is where I want to be, but I guess I’m already there” sung by David Byrne

Song: This must be the place, Talking Heads.

I loved this song the moment I heard it. It makes me think of my mother’s love, cracking her and my brother up with my silliness in the morning. It makes me desire to create a home for myself where’s there’s love overflowing, laughter from children, a warm fire, and Peace.

So peaceful and serene

I thank Mr. Kim for letting me come to aA yesterday and get some images.
This one is my favorite.
The chairs look as if they are having their own conversation.
I didn’t want to interrupt so I took a picture from afar.

Void in Korean Art

I was on my way back from Hyewa and saw this billboard about the latest exhibit at Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art. From what I’ve seen so far, Seoul seems to be quite smitten with Design, it’s not as near as frenzied as Japan seems to be but…In any case I will definitely visit this fascinatingly beautiful museum and try to gather more ideas and thoughts about art in Korea and Korean art.

Yes, I did it and I really cannot say I won’t do it again…

Although I am not one to take photographs of displayed objects in museums, I could not resist taking a picture of this Buncheong bottle. Just looking at it makes me happy. The shape, the dark, warm colors of the print…Take me higher Lord!

I like my museums quiet, please.

September 16, 2007 at 12:47 pm (Blogroll, Museums)

I know it’s Sunday, but I must say my piece. I was going to start this entry with “Will you please STFU?! Seriously! God knows I was thinking it today as I entered the quite impressive Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art. The admission fee is a little pricey so I knew that I was not going to find any riff raff in the building, but damned if I didn’t happen upon a “talker”. You know the ones, usually American (I’m American, by the way. Kisses!) or sometimes Europeans. They are commonly with a friend and not even a second inside the first exhibit they commence to spewing all, anything, or whatever knowledge they have about the art that is in front of them. I just wanted to step next to them and say with a nice nasty glare: “Excuse me, but do you mind keeping your voice down, you’re disturbing my experience. I really don’t need to hear your opinions about the beauty I see before me, doofus”

Alas, ladies and gentlemen I did not confront those people, did not lose my cool. I calmed myself, remembered whose child I was and sped up ahead of “Mickey Rooney and Mr. Ed”, focused on the art, and forgot about them. This museum has such a wonderful selection that I was at peace and in the right frame of mind to enjoy this incredible space and the art housed here. I later retraced my steps and was finally alone to ponder the need for art and beauty in the history of the human race. Every culture, every civilization has the need to reproduce that which is sacred in him or herself according to their history, state of mind, and beliefs. This is art to me.
